Coronavirus Update as at April 17th 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope in these difficult times that you and your families are as well as they can be under the circumstances. I am writing with some key updates ahead of the Summer Term following the foreign secretary’s announcement yesterday evening that the national “lockdown” will be in place for at least the next three weeks before it is reviewed again.

For us, this means that we remain closed to all students except those classed in government guidance as “children of keyworkers” or “most vulnerable”. We remain open to the relevant groups between 8.45am and 1.30pm on Monday to Thursday and 8.45am and 12.15pm on Friday.

A reminder that government guidance defines “children of keyworkers” as being those of adults who work in Health and Social Care, Education and Childcare, Key Public Services, Local and National Government, Food and Other Necessary Goods, Public Safety and National Security, Transport, Utilities, Communications and Financial Services. Fuller detail is available at:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

The same guidance defines “most vulnerable” students as those who have a social worker and those with Education, Health and Care Plans. If you were not previously classed as a “keyworker” but now are one, please let us know and we will ensure that a place is reserved for your child to attend if it is needed.

For students working at home again from Monday 20th March, don’t forget that there is now an extensive variety of work available for all subjects on the “Learning at Home” section of our website at: https://www.theedgeacademy.co.uk/learning-at-home/ . This is in addition to the physical work packs we have provided to every student- if students are continuing to work through this pack, that is absolutely fine also. More detail will follow from us in the coming weeks about additional work we will be setting for students in Years 7-10; one further update we can provide to our Year 11 students is that the government have now confirmed that they will receive their examination results as agreed at the start of the year on Thursday 20th August 2020.

I would like to conclude by again thanking you all for the support we have had from yourselves and your children in recent weeks. Students who have attended our Easter Holiday provision have been a pleasure to work with, all students working at home are never far from our thoughts.

Our safeguarding commitment to you all remains as strong as ever. Don’t forget that if you have any safeguarding queries during this unprecedented period of school closure, the e-mail addresses for the safeguarding team, which are monitored around the clock, every day, are below:
