Dear Year 9 Parent/Carer,

The Edge Academy has undergone some exciting changes once again this year and we are looking forward to continuing this drive to ensure a positive future for all Edge students. This term is an important one for Year 9 as they are reaching the end of Key Stage 3 and will need to make decisions about which subjects to study at Key Stage 4. We are committed to fully supporting our students as they begin to prepare for life in KS4 and as they “step up” the intensity of their classwork/ homework.

All students will continue to study core subjects Maths, English and Science, alongside PE, Catering and Life Skills; they will also need to pick one option subject, Media or Art. We will be encouraging students to think carefully about which subjects they enjoy and which subjects will support them best in their future plans. It is with this in mind that we are delighted to write with details of our “Year 9 Stepping Up Day” which takes place on Monday July 13th. Information on each subject and work-related learning placements will be provided and students will bring home a pack of information to share with you. While every attempt will be made to accommodate choices, group sizes will be restricted. Please take the time to read through the information and discuss your child’s options with them as it may not be possible to make changes part way through the year.

Due to the additional safety measures in place at the moment we will call and text you with an individual allotted time. Sessions should last around an hour and students will be dismissed when the session is over.

If you require any further details, or want to talk through your child’s options don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at charlotte.poynton@theedgeacademy.co.uk

Yours faithfully,

Charlotte Poynton

Assistant Principal
