Dear Parent/carer,

Your child has been selected to take part in an exciting work experience project. On the week beginning 21/11/22 they will complete two days of carpentry on site at Ackers Adventure. They will be volunteering in the community and working towards a recognised carpentry qualification. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a skill that we do not currently offer in school. Students will be working with Volunteer It Yourself staff to improve local leisure facilities at Ackers Trust Paddle Club. Successful participants will achieve Entry Level City and Guild in Carpentry. They will be using tools and working by water- they will be given a safety briefing at the start of the project, failure to follow site instructions will result in immediate removal from the site.

Students will be transported to and from school in taxis and supervised by Edge staff but the project will be led by Volunteer It Yourself. This is a physical outdoor activity that will continue in all weathers so appropriate wet weather clothing may be needed. We can provide waterproofs and work boots if required, all food will be provided.

Year 11s will attend on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd November. Year 10s will do Thursday 24th and Friday 25th November. The students will depart from school at 9.30 and return to school for 2.30. Students can leave directly from Ackers if we have verbal permission from parents/carers.

If you have any questions about the project, please contact me on [email protected]
