Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you and your children are all well as we approach the end of the 2020/21 academic year on Friday 23rd July at 12pm. I am writing with advance notice of arrangements for the start of the Autumn Term 2021.

As you know, we have worked incredibly hard to put robust safety measures in place since the start of the pandemic- the result of this has been that we have remained open at all times since March 2020 and pleasingly, we have never had to shut down any of our “teaching bubbles”.

In order to minimise risk when students return to school in September, in line with government guidance, we will be reopening our on-site Coronavirus testing centre. In the week commencing Monday September 6th, all students will be offered a “lateral flow” test, this is to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus by identifying asymptomatic cases. Testing will be available between the hours of 10.00am and 1.00pm on the day of your child’s year group testing (a schedule of which is detailed below).

Day Activity
Monday 6th September
  • Year 11 students come to school to be tested for Coronavirus only and return home once they have had test. Year 11 students do not attend work experience placements this week.
  • Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 students remain at home on this day.
Tuesday 7th September
  • Year 11 students in school for full teaching.
  • Year 10 students come to school to be tested for Coronavirus only and return home once they have had test. Year 10 students do not attend work experience placements this week.
  • Year 8 and 9 students remain at home on this day.

  • Year 10 and Year 11 students in school for full teaching.
  • Year 9 students come to school to be tested for Coronavirus only and return home once they have had test.
  • Year 8 students remain at home on this day.
Thursday 9th September
  • Year 8 students come to school to be tested for Coronavirus only and return home once they have had test.
  • Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 students in school for full teaching.
Friday 10th September
  • Year 8, Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 students in school for full teaching. No enrichment sessions for this week only so school finishes at 12pm.
Monday 13th September
  • All school activities running fully as normal for all year groups including work experience and enrichment sessions.

For your child to access Lateral Flow Testing in school, it is essential if you have not already done so that you return a completed consent form to us. This can be done quickly and easily using the online form at: https://www.theedgeacademy.co.uk/covid-form/. Without the consent form, your child cannot receive a Lateral Flow Test in school. Although the tests are voluntary, we strongly encourage every single family who have not already done so to complete the consent form so that we can make the school the safest it can possibly be.

If you require any more support or have any questions regarding Covid-19 testing, please contact our Medical Lead and Designated Senior Person Calum Hill at [email protected]. If there are any further changes to school arrangements associated with the Coronavirus pandemic over the summer holidays, we will communicate them to you prior to the start of term.

Finally, if you need anything from us over the holiday period, don’t forget that we have a dedicated e-mail address for any safeguarding issues you need assistance with which is [email protected] and a dedicated safeguarding section of our website at: https://www.theedgeacademy.co.uk/safeguarding-2/
