1. “All Different, All Equal”

We are supporting anti-bullying week at The Edge Academy in a variety of ways. Tuesday’s assembly will focus on anti-bullying with lessons on Wednesday all having the same theme. Friday will be a non-uniform day in aid of Children in Need.

The slogan for this year’s anti-bullying week is “All Different, All Equal”. We believe this to be particularly pertinent for our students. Our approach at The Edge is an incredibly personalised one, recognising the specific needs our students have. We, therefore, fully support diversity and encourage students to celebrate their differences.

  1. Hate Crime

If bullying occurs at school, we take a firm stance on it.   Sanctions are always issued and these are supported by our school’s link police officer. PC Richards meets with both bullies and the victims to discuss the impact of the behaviour as well as the police view of the behaviour.

PC Richards also talks to students about hate crime to ensure students fully understand the definition of this and the law on it.

Hate crimes are crimes that are targeted at a person because of hostility or prejudice towards that person’s: disability, race/ethnicity, religion/belief, sexual orientation, or transgender identity. It can be reported online (report-it.org.uk) or by phoning 101 (use 999 if it is an emergency).

Reporting makes a difference – to you, your friends, and your life.

  1. SHARP System

Students are always able to talk to staff if they have any concerns about their own or others’ safety. We have also recently introduced an online reporting system which can be accessed through our website.

The School Help Advice Reporting Page (SHARP) tab can be found at the top of our website. Through this link, students and parents can make referrals. If need be, these can be anonymous although it is obviously is more helpful for us if know who has made the referral.
