Principal’s Update as at June 27th 2023

Dear Parent/ Carer,

I hope you are well and that you and your children are enjoying what are now becoming the latter stages of the Summer Term. I would like to wish a warm welcome to all of our new Year 9 students that have officially started with us this week and I look forward to working with you all as parents and carers. I am writing today with some reminders for your diary and updates to be aware of.

Firstly, please be aware that as per our published school calendar, Friday June 30th 2023 and Monday July 3rd are staff training days and school is closed to all students on these dates. A reminder too that if you are planning ahead for diary dates in 2023/24, our term dates for next academic year have now been released and are available for viewing at: https://www.theedgeacademy.co.uk/calendar-2020-21/

Secondly, having recently reviewed our Key Stage 4 curriculum, we will shortly be announcing extensive changes starting in September 2023 as we expand our staffing in addition to our existing team. Students will be offered a broader choice of options and will have the opportunity to study more subjects over the course of their Key Stage 4 programme.

To plan for creating this extra capacity, we are making some refinements to the current Year 10 programme for the last three weeks of term. Students will no longer attend a vocational placement on a Tuesday and will instead be educated on site here at The Edge. Individual arrangements will be communicated to students who are close to completion of their current Vocational Learning qualifications and who will therefore continue to attend Vocational Learning.

As usual, please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] if there are any further questions I can assist with in any way regarding this letter.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Wakefield

Principal
