Dear Parent/Carer,
Key dates for your diary:

Tuesday 11th July 4 – 6pm – Parents evening for years 7-10

Friday 14th July – Students dismissed at 1pm for staff training

Friday 21st July – Break up

Last week saw the start of our ‘Change Your Mindset’ programme with Year 7s and 8s joining the academy for a 4 week intervention programme to raise achievement. We are pleased to say they are settling in well and earning gold stars galore for positive behaviour and good work.

We continue our focus on improving teaching and learning at the academy with staff training focused upon high quality learning objectives. Please regularly talk to your son/daughter about what they are learning to encourage them to think about their progress.

To complement this development, staff are continuing to explore ways they can make learning more practical and relevant, which is also something the students have asked for during feedback sessions. The English department are currently planning a visit to Dudley zoo to support this drive – look out for invite letters!

High quality teaching and learning requires students to work with focus and it is for this reason that we insist on the highest standards of behaviour. To support behaviour both within the academy and the community, PC Richards from Northfield police has been and working closely with us to help students understand the impact of anti-social behaviour on their own and others’ lives. This partnership with the police is an important one for us and we are grateful for their support.

As ever, if you have any feedback for myself, please do not hesitate to contact us at the academy and if you are not already following us on facebook and twitter, please do!

Yours faithfully,

Karen Slater

Principal.
