Online Safety Letter

Dear Parents/Carers,

At The Edge Academy, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils are safeguarded effectively and are provided with opportunities to explore, discuss and develop strategies that allow them to make safe and healthy choices.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and carers of the importance of supporting their children to make safe and healthy choices online. We all recognise the important role that the online community and social media play in modern society and whilst we should encourage the safe use of these platforms, it is also imperative that we all work to remind pupils of the risks that they may encounter.

Therefore, we strongly advise that all parents and carers regularly discuss online safety and have open and honest discussions about their online activity so that children have a consistent message that show home and school are working in partnership to safeguard them.

In order to support parents and carers with this, we have developed a safeguarding support section of our website which includes online safety:

  • Links to the safety centres for the most popular social media sites
  • Downloadable ‘safety pages’ for the most popular social media sites which gives information on settings, appropriate use and dealing with issues encountered online
  • Downloadable parent resource sheet which gives useful information on supporting your child in terms of online safety
  • Links to the NSPCC website which gives useful advice on how to talk to your child about online safety
  • Links to a variety of websites which give useful hints, tips and advice on online safety To Access this important resource, please click here https://www.theedgeacademy.co.uk/what-to-do-ifstaying-safe-online/ and https://www.theedgeacademy.co.uk/what-to-do-ifdigital-safety-top-tips/

We will continue to deliver messages and education on all elements of Safeguarding (including online safety) across our curriculum and via tutor time and assemblies. Should you have any questions or need any support and guidance, please do not hesitate to the Safeguard Team. Keeping children safe at The Edge Academy is our most important job and is everyone’s responsibility.

Yours faithfully,

Adam Smith
