Year 11 Mock Exams

Dear Parent/ Carer,

We are delighted with the positive attitude that Year 11 students have been showing towards their studies in recent weeks.

In GCSE English Literature, students have been studying J.B Priestley’s ‘An Inspector Calls’  (20% of their final GCSE grade) and are now embarking upon the study of the novella ’A Christmas Carol’ – another 20% of their final GCSE grade.

All of the skills learned underpin their studies of language analysis: developing a sophisticated vocabulary and understanding how and why to use certain sentence structures.

Furthermore, students are rapidly developing their skills in maths and have been focusing upon different types of equations, including fractions!

We would like to inform you that students will be completing mock examinations in these areas this week: on Wednesday 5thand Thursday 6th December 2018. Students will embark upon mock examinations covering 50% of their final GCSE grade in English Language and 33% of their final GCSE grade in Maths.

Therefore, it is imperative that students attend both exams with an excellent attitude knowing that they want to achieve their very best. These results will go a long way towards predicting their grades for colleges and apprenticeships.

The mock exam grades from these exams and all modular courses will be given to students in January 2019 where they will meet an incredible motivational speaker: Alim Kamara. This will stand students in good stead to focus upon their impending GCSE exams.

Thank you for all of your help and support in ensuring your child gets it right in lessons and focuses on how to do their best. If you have any questions regarding this letter, please let me know.

Yours faithfully

Claire Fairburn
