Year 11 Mock Examinations: GCSEs in English and Maths

Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th March 2019

Dear Parent/ Carer,

With just under three months until the impending GCSE examinations, it is imperative that Year 11 students undertake a mock examination in Maths and English to ensure they are aware of what the examinations entail.

Therefore, on Tuesday 26th March and Wednesday 27th March, students will take their mock GCSE English Language and Mathematics examinations.

The GCSE English Language examination is 1 hour and 45 minutes long and is worth 50% of the final GCSE grade. This exam consists of five questions: four reading questions based on two texts (pre and post 19th century) and one writing question, which may ask students to write a speech, letter, article or email.

The GCSE Mathematics examinations is 1 hour and 30 minutes long. There are at least 27 questions and a calculator may be used. This examination is worth 33% of students’ final GCSE grade. Areas to revise could include: fractions, expressions, basic algebra, averages, area, shape, measure, ratio and proportion, and problem solving.

Please support your child in revising for their forthcoming examinations.

If you need any help or support, please do not hesitate to contact Calum Hill (Lead Teacher of Maths, [email protected]) or myself re-English at [email protected]

Yours faithfully,
