Dear Parent/Carer,

I am delighted to write to you to share details of our forthcoming activity days to West Midlands Safari Park near Bewdley, Worcestershire. As a continued aspect of our ‘Safe, Ready, Respectful’ curriculum, we are offering all students the opportunity to go on safari and get up close to incredible animals from around the world, experience animal encounters and immerse themselves in the walk-through animal experiences. Finally, students will also have some time to enjoy on the family-friendly theme park and rides too.

We will begin the visit with the safari drive-through in the school minibus which takes roughly 60 – 90 minutes. There are warning signs in enclosures in regards to closing of windows, feeding of animals is prohibited (unless specifically stated) and it is forbidden for anyone to leave the vehicle anywhere within the safari drive-through. The minibus doors and windows must remain stay closed when in carnivore areas or when near camels or zebra.

After the drive-through experience we will then stop for lunch and refreshments before moving on to the walk-through experiences and theme park where the students will be afforded a little more flexibility to be able to access the theme park rides.

The trips will operate as follows;

· Monday 19th July – all Year 9 students only.

o The minibus will leave school promptly at 9.30am to arrive at the venue for 10.15am. We will then depart the Safari Park at approx. 2.00pm in order to return back to school for 3.00pm where students will be permitted to leave.

All entry costs, ride wristbands and transport will be covered by the Edge Academy, so there is no charge to families.

Visiting a Safari Park is an enjoyable and educational experience for many people. However, such visits can never be 100% free from all risks. During the visit, our group may have encounters with a range of animals. West Midlands Safari Park suggest the following to help keep you and your group safe:

· Don’t put your face close to animals (even if they are the friendly ones!)

· If you have been near the animals, don’t put your hands on your face or near your mouth.

· Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after touching the animals, or after taking off dirty shoes.

· Don’t eat or drink whilst near animals, or eat anything that has fallen on the floor

· They suggest using gel or wipes immediately, then washing hands at the first available opportunity at one of our Hand Wash Stations or toilet blocks.

Should you have any queries regarding this trip, please do not hesitate to contact the school, or myself directly via adam.smith@theedgeacademy.co.uk or replying via the SMS text message sent from school to notify you of the trip.

Yours faithfully,

Adam Smith
