Dear Parents/Carers,

Once more, I would like to thank you all for your support and confidence in us at the start of term and hope you are all well. I am writing with an update following the government’s decision to introduce “Tier 1” restrictions in Birmingham in order to minimise transmission of Coronavirus.

We remain fully open on a full-time basis for all students, for us the only difference of the “Tier 1” restrictions will be that from now on, all staff, students and visitors will be expected to wear face masks or coverings when moving around the premises outside of classrooms. This applies only to corridors and communal areas, students are not expected to wear masks in lessons unless they specifically wish to do so.

As always, we are happy to provide washable fabric face masks or disposable masks for any students who have difficulty bringing their own into school, please feel free to contact Vice Principal Adam Smith directly if you would like us to assist in this regard at [email protected] .

Please rest assured that we continue to follow all of the safety measures we have put in place since the start of September rigorously, we have also been hugely impressed as a team of staff by students’ high standards of behaviour and their commitment to safety. It has also been hugely uplifting to see students attending in such good numbers this term, with attendance already 1% higher than 2019/20, 5% higher than in 2018/9 and 23% higher than it was in 2017/8. Pleasingly, average attendance of students since joining The Edge is now an incredible 25% higher than their previous school baseline prior to joining us!

If you have any further questions regarding this letter, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] . Full details of the “Tier 1” restrictions and how they affect wider life in Birmingham are available at: https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/news/article/709/new_restrictions_announced_to_drive_down_infection_rate

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Wakefield
