April 2020

Dear Year 11 Parent/ Carer,

We truly appreciate what a stressful time this may be for your child with the announcement that GCSE examinations have been cancelled.

Therefore, further to previous communications from us, we wanted to let you know what The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) have now stated about this year’s GCSE results.

Schools must send exam boards two pieces of information:

  • The grade they believe students would have most likely achieved if they had completed their exams;
  • The rank order of students within each grade.

The school will take into account lots of information including: classwork, assessments, mock exams, spoken language assessments and any coursework.

The exam boards will then analyse all of the information we give them to deem whether it is accurate and fair. No further work or assessments will need to take place for your child to achieve a grade.

Students should gain their results in August, if not before. If students want to appeal their results, they can. Furthermore, exam boards will give students the opportunity to sit their GCSE exams at a later date, if they feel that they have not received the grade they would have.
