Southside Learning is an Alternative training provider that exists to provide alternative training to 14 – 16 year old learners that are at risk of permanent exclusion from school.

Southside is a construction based provider that offers learners tasters in 4 vocational areas, Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plastering, Rendering.

At Southside, the importance of further English and Maths development is not overlooked. The development of these skills forms part of our programme of learning. Two days per week are dedicated to Maths and English sessions. From September 2016 GCSE’s will be delivered alongside Functional Skills.

Learners will be assessed on arrival to determine their current operating levels for Maths and English, they will then be timetabled to access sessions based on assessment results and current ability.

Suitable progression routes for year 11 learners are looked at in January and applications for apprenticeships and colleges are completed.

Southside continuously prepares year 11 learners for their eventual exit and into post 16 learning.
